Convergence Echo

From BGNV Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A brief blast of echo at the start of a call or when new callers join a conference. This is due to the presence of a high level of echo, which is hidden by the echo canceller. It takes a short time for the echo canceller to converge, i.e. to adapt to and cancel the echo.

[edit] Impact

User reports a high initial level of echo for the first few seconds of the call.

[edit] Resolution

Check echo canceller settings. If the echo is originating from the trunk side of a VoIP Gateway then if possible measure the echo level - if the Echo Return Loss is less than 15dB then the Gateway's Line Echo Canceller may be unable to compensate sufficiently, in which case it is necessary to try and identify the source of the echo problem.
